I type in on Google ''English in 30 days'' and I get 12.900 results. Then I change it to ''English in 6 months'' and I get 15 million results.
Those people who have learned a second language for a long time know that neither 30 days nor 180 days are enough to master a second language.

Me gustaría que viesen este blog: www.actividades-extraescolares.com/extraescolares/formulas-magicas-aprender-ingles

This link is in Spanish. Basically, it says that this is a long-term undertaking which requires endeavor and perseverance.

A few days ago I visited Duolingo which is a project provided with $18.3. From my viewpoint this is fully flawed since it is about translating sentences from a given language into another which is OK if you need to pass an exam yet it is way too far from mastering a second language. The same goes to Rosetta Stone, Babbel and other well-known ones.

And then you bump into an entertaining guy, familiar, as if you had known him for years, the kind of friend you'd like to have who with the help of a plain camera in his apartment and a white board as a background, produces 90% of his body of work for FREE,  as introducing the kind of method you really are fully satisfied with.  Is that it, how come?!

That's right Mr Peterson. Your method is much better than projects provided with millions of dollars. But what it is to be taken pride in for you may be something to be worried about for me and the reason is that they keep using the wrong approach from primary school to higher education and also through big companies.

Other English material you might find helpful, MrDuncan, Luke's English podcast, English Anyone...

Cada vez me gusta menos la gente. No paro de toparme con imbéciles. !Estoy harto de imbéciles!

I like people less and less. I keep bumping into jerks. I'm sick of jerks!

It's just that most people are not willing to put their best foot forward, put their issues aside and not take it out on others! I also have problems yet I go out of my way to put my best foot forward

¡Eh!
Hey, I heard you run your own business these days, don't you?

¡Sí! That's right!

¿De que se trata?  What's it about?

It's a kind of small hotel. 50 rooms. If you like you can try a weekend stay for two people for free no strings attached

That would be awesome! But if I don't like it, could I be frank?

Yes sure! but if you are going to put it bluntly I want you to tell me why. I ask all my customers to do so, that way they'll help me to improve my supply.

These days kids get started learning English from the age of 3 in the Public schools. Since Schooling in Spain is compulsory from the ages of 6 to 16, kids spend 13 years learning English, which should be enough to be able to keep a day-to-day conversation.

Back in the day kids were introduced to the foreign language at the age of 12. This means that the amount of hours invested in this subject has increased dramatically. The thing is if  it comes with results, or, the outcomes counterbalance the resources that have been used.

I don't think so. Let's look at the flaws and possible solutions.

When it comes to learning a foreign language, the earlier you begin, the better. Therefore the greatest endeavor should be carried out through both Pre-School and Primary School (3-12) particularly during the early years. During this time developing the listening skills should be put on the front burner as doing away with grammar. On the internet there is lots of both free material and for a fee .

In our country (Spain) kids are taught the same year in year out: numbers, colors, verb To Be etc. Sometimes teachers don't even know how to speak fluently in a given language. Of course, they have no problems with it on paper.

In Secondary School (13-16) they should work on listening and pronunciation aimed for being able to keep casual, day-to-day discussions.

Let's look at the Finnish system, so called the best in the world. It's a documentary in English with Spanish subtitles  where an American teacher travels to Finland to check what its success lies in:

It's delightful hearing those youngsters expressing themselves in English, while in Spain they don't go beyond the ''Present  Perfect''.

There are nice tool on the Internet. A case in point: Daily Dictation. It is a top shelf tool.

These days classrooms have all kinds of thechological resources available. They may take advantage of things like Daily Dictation by downloading it and showing it on a TV screen. They may work using something like Daily Dictation for 10 - 15 minutes and for the rest of the class they may elaborate over it.

Here an example with Shane - Coach Shane - in Seoul. Obivously it is aimed at Koreans, although we get the picture.

Y no podemos esperar generaciones... ¡ Refundemos el sistema !

The exchange among Spanish speaking students and English speaking students should be encouraged, through (agreements, educational social networking ...)

The current system is definitely not the way to go when it comes to learning foreing languages. We already know that grammar doesn't work out. We have the tools. What are we waiting for?! Let's change the system!

31st blog post: Food For Thought

Why is Coach Shane the native speaker you need?

Not everyone has the chance to dwell in an English speaking country like England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, USA to get the possibility to talk with native speakers on a regular basis. Having the possibility to talk with native speakers on a regular basis is a perk which might help you build your English confidence, but... Will that really be helpful for your pronunciation? Do you believe that native speakers out there in the real world are going to be willing to correct your pronunciation just because it bothers you? Do you believe that native speakers out there even think about the sounds they make as they speak naturally in their day-to day life? Do you believe that native speakers out there are going to bother to correct you every time you mispronounce as lecturing you on how you need to do it properly? Honestly, the answer to all those questions is pretty much NO.

Another advantage about living in an English speaking country is the fact that you're surrounded by it. It is everywhere, shopping malls, transport, TV, Radio... As a result you become familiar with the culture and its vocabulary, but... once again... will that be helpful for your pronunciation? Rather little.

Coach Shane is that native English speaker, who will help you figure out what native speakers out there nor English teachers who are not native speakers - (and many natives too) - won't do. How the actual native talk works. His method is based on a bunch of rules which apply, match reality 90%. So what about the reminding 10%? Now, 10% represents the exception that proves the rule and turns out they don't clash, actually they pretty much are complementary.

Speaking is key. You need to reproduce the sounds and repeat, the more, the better. It is a process. Get the pronunciation down while repeat as you slow it down.

Once you get to reproduce the sounds along with the proper intonation at a lower pace, you should be ready to try it at a normal pace.

NO.

Remember, in order for you to master English you need to master pronunciation. In order to master your pronunciation you have to ''speak''. By ''speak'' I don't mean random talk with a native speaker. NO. I mean you must SAY, REPRODUCE, the sounds in the lessons that Coach Shane presents to us so that we can build up our pronunciation skills. Remember, as you work on your pronunciation skills, you, also, build up your listening skills.

With regard to the native speaker, not any native speaker will work it out fine with you. You need to get the proficient one. That one is Coach Shane whose approach will mark you deeply in such a way that you will tell when listening to other native speakers and will wish you had come across him much sooner.

E-Cubed made -up story

Me gustaría mejorar mi inglés sobremanera...

I'd like to improve my English dramatically. Sometimes I think that maybe I'm not good at it because I don't have a flare for it... What do you think I might do? Should I accept it is too late for me as well as I'm not cut out for it?

Cultura. Dedicación. Esfuerzo. Disciplina. Hacer un hábito de ello. Así de sencillo. Es que no hay más.

¿ Quieres estar con los mejores ? Do you want to join the best ones?

In late August 2013 I found myself forced to brush up my English. My English journey was like so many Spaniards' : 3 years in Middle School plus 4 years in High School with the same outcome as most people: I am not able to keep a conversation with a native speaker, nor understand movies.

I started surfing through the internet looking for good stuff. I was aware of what I was looking for since I have some knowledge on linguistics thus I understand why most English teaching methods fail (specially in the public education): They are focused primarily on grammar.

I found Coach Shane since I did know what I was looking for.

If you type in at Google or YouTube something like, ''method for English learning, or, English course, you will not find the best ones. Why is that?  Well in my opinion this is because they spend a lot of money in marketing in order to position themselves in The Internet. But, are they the best? In most cases no, they are not.

In Spain, we have the example of a guy from Texas who has been able to figure out how to reach the Spaniards and knows how much we enjoy being tought in our own language.

In other ads aimed to Spaniards we get English Native speakers speaking in Spanish as they guarantee us good results which from a marketing viewpoint works out fine.

Coach Shane's method gets right to the point: Every single thing in English, just like Real life. Coach Shane has a long experience teaching English,  is entertaining along with a method that fits in with the 21st century. All that in my opinion and to many other people makes Shane be among the best.

His YouTube channels are a fantastic tool for English learning. The challenge is for it to grow and reach language Private schools, high schools, newspapers etc. Additionally those videos are for FREE

How long does it take to learn a language?

That is what everyone who wants to learn a language wonders. Even though we don't have the same skills, it  might be averaged as the links down below show.

This link is referred to Americans who want to learn a foreign language. They say it might take you 600 hours.

According to this link it takes you about 200 hours for each level. As C.E.F.R. establishes 6 levels we would be talking about 1200 for the advanced level.

Por último, en

Finally, according to this link we need about 1000 hours to get by and 5000 hours to master it.

Thanks to Daily Dictation you can do those hours for free. It's a fun method where you will learn not only English but culture too.

Very few on-line ESL sites gives you such top-notch English material like Coach Shane does.

26th blog post

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU9eQbHh24E

Just go straight to 8:27 if you wanna get around to the next dictation which is about The Titanic and its both tragic and well-known wreck...  It's a guy talking about what migth have been the main cause that made The Titanic sink. The sotry itself is not that tough, however the guy's pronunciation might give you a difficult time...

Before that you have the answers for DD58 along with Coach Shane's explanation which is always pretty DAMN cool, isn't it?

GO FIGURE...

It turns out that a group of scientists researching Al Gore touted Global Warming became stranded as their Antartic expedition became frozen in the sea... GO FIGURE...

And when you were asked on what you think about those scientists, what did you say? - Well I said they are suckers - Kudos to you!!

Entonces ¿vas a tirar el panfleto? - Pues claro -

Then are you going to trash the pamphlet? - What do you think? -
